3 am

Ad does not sleep well when we have company. I can pretty much expect her to wake up in the middle of the night crying. And our house is small, so our guests get to hear it too. Addison's cousins spent the night a couple of days ago, and as expected, she woke up crying. I try to calm her as quickly as possible so she doesn't wake the entire house. She is delirious with exhaustion and is just sobbing. "Addison what do you need?" I am not patient at three am. No answer, just a very sad kiddo. "Honey, you need to go back to bed." More crying. And then she decides on something. . . " Mom, I need to floss with my pink flosser!" What?! "No you don't, just go to bed. We can floss in the morning." The crying gets louder, "Mom, I gotta floss my mouth!" Sigh. Fine.

My vision is blurry with sleepiness. The bathroom light is way too bright. I floss my three year old's teeth at three in the morning. Then I give her a big hug. And she happily goes back to sleep.

note: The pink flosser is a novelty. I fully expect the novelty to wear off . . . soon . . .
