Addison's first Christmas

This year we spent Christmas at Karl's parent's house. It was a lot of fun to see everybody. Addison had fun meeting her twin cousins that are about 1 1/2 months younger than her. She also enjoyed ripping the wrapping paper off the presents and playing with it.

After Christmas, we went to Grand Junction for my dad's wedding. (Pictures of that to follow.)
My little brother Jake got a robot for Christmas. I thought Addison would be scared by it, but she actually liked it.

Happy Anniversary!

Yesterday was our five year Anniversary! Karl's Mom came and stayed with Addison overnight while we went to Salt Lake. It was so much fun! We went to a little Argentinian restaurant called the Tango and had some fantastic milanesa and South American style barbeque. Then we went to Zanzibar which is a jazz club that has live music every night. In the morning we went back to the Temple we were married in. We got some poor kid to take a picture of us in the freezing cold! Why did we get married in December again? Oh yes, sometimes love can't (or doesn't want to) wait. Anyway, it was a blast. What a great five years it has been!

Family photos

Hello to one and all, and a Merry Christmas! We just got our pictures back from the Target studio. Here is a little sneak peek.

Yes, her rooster-tail sticks up ALL the time. We've tried everything but hot-glue. That one was still so cute though that it will be on display at the local Target.

Oh man am I a proud dad!

Christmas time

I love this time of year as I am sure most of you do. This is the first time Karl and I have had a real Christmas tree! In the past we only had a two foot tall fake tree that we lovingly nicknamed Kevin. He is on our dresser this year, and the big one is in the living room. Here it is!

Addison does not appreciate being left out of whatever is happening. (This is a nice way of saying she gets mad when I try to put her in her bouncer while I get ready in the morning.) She wants to see what I am doing and the view from the bouncer isn't very good. This is her Dad's solution. I don't know if it will stick or not, but she was happy and it was pretty funny.

Chomp Chomp

Addison finally let us get a picture of her two little bottom chompers!

Mmm . . . . Delicious!

Addison had her first bite of baby food yesterday! Well, technically it was round two. Her ambitious and independent father decided to give her some rice cereal while I was gone for a half hour run a couple of days ago. As I came in the house, he excitedly told me what he had done and was suprised when I didn't react in the expected manner. In the discussion that followed, I learned to appreciate his desire to be a hands-on father, and he learned to appreciate my sentimentality as a mother. We decided that it didn't really count (because the first round is really just water, with one or two bits of cereal floating around anyway) and that we would do it together next time, pictures and all. So here it is! I expected her to make a funny, disgusted face like she did the time my Dad gave her a little taste of Dr. Pepper (much to my chagrin, but what are grandpas for?).

It went more like this:

She has been so eager to try food that she just chowed down! This picture is blurry, but it is a good example of how much she liked it.

"Don't take it away Mom!"

Pearly Whites

Addie got to meet some more of her cousins this weekend! From left to right: Kaydee 2 1/2 months, Addison 5 months, and McKenzie 9 months. She was bummed the twins (who were also born this summer) were not there, but she will get to meet them at Christmas time.

And finally after much fussing, hand biting, and drooling, Addison's two bottom teeth have made their debut! She doesn't appreciate my efforts to get a picture of them, so this one, which so beautifully demonstrates her drooling expertise, will have to do for now.

Misc updates

This week brought us Addison's very first Halloween! We got her a cute little costume and were all set for her to be the hit of the ward party, and then they cancelled it. Bumma. What's a little duck girl to do when she's all dressed up and there's nowhere to go?

Kristin took her to work, where everybody loved her, and we actually took her with us to go deliver cookies to our sunday school class, so she got to spend some time in it after all. Kristin decorated Addison's nursery with butterflies (if you haven't seen, there's a picture in one of our very first posts) and now Addie just loves them. She's so much fun these days!

Addison also has the funniest hair. She has this long rooster tail right on top, and then a bald spot, and then a little mullet/rat-tail in the back. It has finally started to grow, and so it looks thicker now, but that just seems to add to the humor of it somehow. This picture is an attempt to catch her hair in all its glory.

And finally, I got the information about my new vintage guitar, straight from the company. It's actually a 1959 Supro Belmont. The guy from the company said it looked like it was in great shape, and I agree. I put nice soft strings on it, so it would be gentle to Kristin's fingers as she learns to play. This is what it looks like all cleaned up.

Supro 1962

Karl's uncle found this guitar at a yard sale for FREE and grabbed it for us. Turns out it is a vintage circa 1962 Supro. We looked on Ebay and there is one just like it going for $550. The cool thing is it still works. (Notice the dust still on it)
Great find Jim!

Of course, no post would be complete without pictures of the baby.
I think these jammies were made for siamese twins. The funny thing is, they are almost too short for her!
Oh . . . um, hi mom, you were supposed to think I was napping.

Curious Addison

I love having a baby! Addison is so curious about everything these days. It is so fun to watch her discover the world. She often has this suprised, curious look on her face:

She has been so interested in food lately. The other day Karl and I were eating chips and dip and she watched as I took a chip out of the bag, put it in the dip, and then into my mouth.

This is her modeling her new coat. (Thanks Mom and Gary!) It's a little big still, but I don't think it will be long before it fits her, and probably not long after that before it is too small!

Who wouldn't like to get this cake for their birthday?

OH NO . . .

It appears I've been enslaved by the everyday, the grinding, time-eating flow of life that prohibits me from having time to do some of the things that really matter. But I'm rebelling for a few minutes. Instead of studying, I am going to make a new post. Ha, take that!

Actually life has been really good despite being super busy. But in truth, I don't mind the daily busi-ness of life that much. It seems to be just the way it is, and I prefer to be moving forward. Work has been really good, and school is enjoyable this semester. Addison keep sme busy too, and sometimes Kristin and I even get to spend a few minutes together. Here is a picture of my two beautiful girls.

This is a picture of Addison getting her first pedicure. I think she liked it.

We went up Squaw Peak Road to take a look at some of the fall colors last weekend. It was really beautiful. This happens to be my favorite bike ride around here too. This view is hard to beat.

I can be up and back in about a half hour on my bike, which is one of the reasons that I really like living in Provo: the mountains are SO close. I think you might be able to pick out campus in the background if you know what you're looking for.

Finally! Another post!

We managed to fit in a few more fun trips before school started again. We went to see Holly's new baby KayDee! She is so cute and little with lots of blonde hair. Addie finally got to meet one of her cousins and is looking forward to meeting them all.
I love this picture because Addison is only about 2 1/2 months older than KayDee, but she is huge compared to her. They grow so fast, it's crazy!

Then we got to go with some friends up to their cabin and spend a couple of days. It was so nice and refreshing not to have anything to do or worry about!

This is just a cute picture of Addison in the bath. Now I understand why parents take pictures of their kids in the bath. She just looks so cute! She loves taking baths. She just kicks around like crazy and splashes in the water.

Karl loves his little girl! I have realized that daddies play differently than mommies do. This is Addison's "genie" pose. It can only be accomplished because her dad has such big hands.

This is Addison in her blessing dress. I think she looks so pretty in it!

Anyone that knows my little brother Jake knows how funny he is. Once when Addie was just in her diaper and Karl was helping her stand Jake said, "Uh . . . not to be rude but, she looks like a sumo wrestler." It was funny because she kinda did. This is the picture that resulted.

The Many Faces of Addison

Addison is getting so fun! She is interacting a lot more now, and is smiling and has even suprised us with a few giggles! Sometimes we find ourselves just hanging around enjoying her. I wonder what we ever did before we had her?

Addie trying to stow away with her dad on a bike ride.

Or her dad trying to sneak her with him.

Either way, I'm pretty sure they were in cahoots.

It's hard to catch a smile at the perfect time, especially because our camera is kinda slow.
But I think you get the idea.

I just think she looks pretty in this picture, despite the "ugly" yet functional bouncer!

Sometimes when she is mad she just looks so cute! I couldn't resist grabbing the camera.

This is a "Mom, I don't want to go to bed!" face.

But Mom knew better because this was taken the next morning. She always feels better after a good sleep!

Addison had her two-month checkup today. And all you parents out there know what that means . . . immunizations!!! We're happy to report that Addison did very well. The screaming didn't last much longer than the actual shots, so I think we'll call that a success. I think the cool puppy sticker and Barbie Band-Aids really helped her feel a lot better.

They also measured her and gave us all those percentages that people like to hear. So far she doesn't have the notorious Martineau "head" (like her dad did). It measures in the 25th percentile for baby noggins. But she did get some stuff from her dad. Her length/height is 23 inches, which puts her in the 90th percentile for baby girls. She weighed in at exactly 11 pounds, which means she has gained five since her birth. That puts her in the 75th percentile for weight. The doctors and nurses were all amazed at her sweet disposition through the whole ordeal, and told us that we have a great baby. Which we already knew.

She had some moments of surpassing cuteness tonight, with big smiles and her best cooo's yet. It's amazing how easily a little person can melt a big person's heart! Becoming a parent is truly a life-changing experience, but in the best way that I can imagine.

Tour time

The Tour of Utah started today, and since the stage started and finished in downtown Provo, we decided we had to go watch it. We made it for the finish, which consisted of three short laps around downtown Provo. I have always loved cycling as a racer, and watching the big races in Europe is cool, but actually being at a race and seeing it happen is an amazing experience. I would highly recommend it to anyone. I can't say that we got great pictures because we were'nt real near the finish line, and our camera is a bit slow, but here is a little taste of the action.

This is actually my hands clapping, just in case you didn't believe I was there.

And here is the final podium for the day, with winner Sergey Lagutin (Navigators), Andrew Pinfold (Symmetrics Cycling),and Michael Freedman (TIAA-CREF).
