Supro 1962

Karl's uncle found this guitar at a yard sale for FREE and grabbed it for us. Turns out it is a vintage circa 1962 Supro. We looked on Ebay and there is one just like it going for $550. The cool thing is it still works. (Notice the dust still on it)
Great find Jim!

Of course, no post would be complete without pictures of the baby.
I think these jammies were made for siamese twins. The funny thing is, they are almost too short for her!
Oh . . . um, hi mom, you were supposed to think I was napping.

Curious Addison

I love having a baby! Addison is so curious about everything these days. It is so fun to watch her discover the world. She often has this suprised, curious look on her face:

She has been so interested in food lately. The other day Karl and I were eating chips and dip and she watched as I took a chip out of the bag, put it in the dip, and then into my mouth.

This is her modeling her new coat. (Thanks Mom and Gary!) It's a little big still, but I don't think it will be long before it fits her, and probably not long after that before it is too small!

Who wouldn't like to get this cake for their birthday?

OH NO . . .

It appears I've been enslaved by the everyday, the grinding, time-eating flow of life that prohibits me from having time to do some of the things that really matter. But I'm rebelling for a few minutes. Instead of studying, I am going to make a new post. Ha, take that!

Actually life has been really good despite being super busy. But in truth, I don't mind the daily busi-ness of life that much. It seems to be just the way it is, and I prefer to be moving forward. Work has been really good, and school is enjoyable this semester. Addison keep sme busy too, and sometimes Kristin and I even get to spend a few minutes together. Here is a picture of my two beautiful girls.

This is a picture of Addison getting her first pedicure. I think she liked it.

We went up Squaw Peak Road to take a look at some of the fall colors last weekend. It was really beautiful. This happens to be my favorite bike ride around here too. This view is hard to beat.

I can be up and back in about a half hour on my bike, which is one of the reasons that I really like living in Provo: the mountains are SO close. I think you might be able to pick out campus in the background if you know what you're looking for.

Finally! Another post!

We managed to fit in a few more fun trips before school started again. We went to see Holly's new baby KayDee! She is so cute and little with lots of blonde hair. Addie finally got to meet one of her cousins and is looking forward to meeting them all.
I love this picture because Addison is only about 2 1/2 months older than KayDee, but she is huge compared to her. They grow so fast, it's crazy!

Then we got to go with some friends up to their cabin and spend a couple of days. It was so nice and refreshing not to have anything to do or worry about!

This is just a cute picture of Addison in the bath. Now I understand why parents take pictures of their kids in the bath. She just looks so cute! She loves taking baths. She just kicks around like crazy and splashes in the water.

Karl loves his little girl! I have realized that daddies play differently than mommies do. This is Addison's "genie" pose. It can only be accomplished because her dad has such big hands.

This is Addison in her blessing dress. I think she looks so pretty in it!

Anyone that knows my little brother Jake knows how funny he is. Once when Addie was just in her diaper and Karl was helping her stand Jake said, "Uh . . . not to be rude but, she looks like a sumo wrestler." It was funny because she kinda did. This is the picture that resulted.

The Many Faces of Addison

Addison is getting so fun! She is interacting a lot more now, and is smiling and has even suprised us with a few giggles! Sometimes we find ourselves just hanging around enjoying her. I wonder what we ever did before we had her?

Addie trying to stow away with her dad on a bike ride.

Or her dad trying to sneak her with him.

Either way, I'm pretty sure they were in cahoots.

It's hard to catch a smile at the perfect time, especially because our camera is kinda slow.
But I think you get the idea.

I just think she looks pretty in this picture, despite the "ugly" yet functional bouncer!

Sometimes when she is mad she just looks so cute! I couldn't resist grabbing the camera.

This is a "Mom, I don't want to go to bed!" face.

But Mom knew better because this was taken the next morning. She always feels better after a good sleep!

Addison had her two-month checkup today. And all you parents out there know what that means . . . immunizations!!! We're happy to report that Addison did very well. The screaming didn't last much longer than the actual shots, so I think we'll call that a success. I think the cool puppy sticker and Barbie Band-Aids really helped her feel a lot better.

They also measured her and gave us all those percentages that people like to hear. So far she doesn't have the notorious Martineau "head" (like her dad did). It measures in the 25th percentile for baby noggins. But she did get some stuff from her dad. Her length/height is 23 inches, which puts her in the 90th percentile for baby girls. She weighed in at exactly 11 pounds, which means she has gained five since her birth. That puts her in the 75th percentile for weight. The doctors and nurses were all amazed at her sweet disposition through the whole ordeal, and told us that we have a great baby. Which we already knew.

She had some moments of surpassing cuteness tonight, with big smiles and her best cooo's yet. It's amazing how easily a little person can melt a big person's heart! Becoming a parent is truly a life-changing experience, but in the best way that I can imagine.

Tour time

The Tour of Utah started today, and since the stage started and finished in downtown Provo, we decided we had to go watch it. We made it for the finish, which consisted of three short laps around downtown Provo. I have always loved cycling as a racer, and watching the big races in Europe is cool, but actually being at a race and seeing it happen is an amazing experience. I would highly recommend it to anyone. I can't say that we got great pictures because we were'nt real near the finish line, and our camera is a bit slow, but here is a little taste of the action.

This is actually my hands clapping, just in case you didn't believe I was there.

And here is the final podium for the day, with winner Sergey Lagutin (Navigators), Andrew Pinfold (Symmetrics Cycling),and Michael Freedman (TIAA-CREF).

About time!

This last weekend we headed back to our hometown of Grand Junction to see Kristin's brother Brad get married. It was a lot of fun, and the wedding turned out really nice. Brad was handsome, May was beautiful, and the day was just about perfect. Sadly, we forgot our camera. These are pictures we grabbed off of friend and family cameras. This is a great photo, except for the goofball standing off to the side.

Addie got her first dancing lessons, which she seemed to enjoy thoroughly.

After all the festivities, we stayed and relaxed for a few days. I got to go mountain biking and four-wheeling, and was successful at wrecking both. Then we went for a hike, and found an old mica mine outside of town that was really neat. I didn't even know that mica was valuable for anything. It was really beautiful though. A lot of the mica was surrounded by white quartzite rock, and it was amazing when the sun hit it just right. Here is a not-so-great picture, but I think you can get the idea.

So that was pretty much the weekend, and the first part of the week. We stopped by Price for the night on the way back, so Addie got to see all of her grandparents within a few days. And now we're home and it's back to the old grind! Which means I should go to bed, because I have to be to work at 7 AM. Ugh.

Bikes and babies

Today was my first bike ride since Addie arrived. It was marvelous, and it didn't even hurt!!! Except for the kind of hurt that comes from not riding your bike in a few months. It made me remember a few things.
  1. How much I hate skateboarders that go down the hill on their stomachs. I almost squished a few. It makes me want to say to them, "See you in the ER buddy. They won't even have to X-ray you to know that you left part of your face on the road."
  2. You get little bugs in your eyelid creases. And sometimes up your nose. It's gross, but worth it.
  3. It takes a long time to like climbing hills. It hurts at first, but if you stay at it, the pain doesn't necessarily go away it just starts to feel kind of good. I mean it. I'm not just saying that because I am sleep deprived.
  4. I have a great husband. Not that I forgot that, but he was so nice to hang out at the park with Addie while I got a good ride in on the river trail. I know he would have enjoyed being on his bike too, but Addison is still too small for the bike trailer, so for now we'll just have to take turns.
We didn't have our camera with us, but here's a picture of my bike.

Isn't it pretty? See the sparkles? Here's a picture of Addison chillin' in the Boppy from earlier today.

And this is the hard part of her day. The rest of the time, she's sleeping. She's getting to be a lot more fun, because she stays awake for a little longer now. She's getting big too.

Everbody Loves Addie!

We have decided that Addison is the luckiest baby in the world. She is loved by some of the coolest people we know. Whenever we go somewhere now it's like, "Hey guys, where's the baby?" We don't mind. We think she is pretty special too.

While we were in Grand Junction she got to visit grandma Tammy at her office.

Aunt Kim finally got a turn to hold her. (She has
been running for favorite aunt status, but she
has a lot of competition!)

Wow, I can see a lot more from up here!

Visiting with Grandma and Grandpa Martineau at the family reunion.

We have been busy running around showing off the baby.
When we got home there was a lot of laundry to do and the baby went missing! This is where we found her. At least she got clean!

Now that we're home we are looking forward to settling down for a little while. Hey, we might even get a chance to hold her ourselves!

More lessons

Addie continues to teach us. This week, we learned how hard it is to travel with a new baby! We went to Grand Junction for the 4th of July, and it was tons of fun. But we didn't get much sleep. Oh well.

Here are some pictures from the trip. Addie tried out her Grandpa Stan's new saddle . . .

It was a little too big, but the saddlebag was just right . . .

She got to meet her great-grandparents . . .

This is Addie with her Grandpa Steve . . .

And her Uncle Jacob and Aunt Sarah.

It was a really fun trip. For us, at least. And I'm pretty sure that everyone else enjoyed it too. We have a few more pictures, but we'll post them tomorrow sometime. Right now, we need to try and catch up on some sleep!

One final note. We have become curious about who is looking from where, just to see how well our silly little website is being received. Post a comment or send me an e-mail (cyclife@gmail.com) and let me know where you are looking from and what you think of our little site. Thanks!

Postfest ! ! !

Well now, it's been a day or two, and in the self-serving interest of proving that our life really isn't boring, here are a bunch of pictures. I'll try to recap what happened here. First, Aunt Kim-No-Sabe came to visit. See Kim, she is pretty sweet. And look at our chubby little Addison the model.

We've been for several long walks. So far, that's all the doctor will let Kristin do. (She tried to get on her bike once, but that quickly manifested itself for the bad idea that it was.) If he knew how long those walks were, he would probably tell her not to do that too.

Here is some miscellaneous cuteness from the past few days. Addison is no longer jealous of all our fancy cordless devices, because she is cordless now too! Good thing it was a free upgrade, she's been expensive enough already!

We've had some other friends visit us the past little while. Buck and Jen stopped in for a quick visit, and being the lame friends that we sometimes are we forgot to take pictures. That's okay, it just gives us a reason to see them again soon. Mary and Jared, our neighbors from Fruita, stopped by with their kids too.

Note: Don't try this at home unless you are a licensed professional blanket-tosser. Like Jared and me. Just a note for those of you who were disturbed by the blanket picture: that is NOT Addie in there!

Addison got to see her first fireworks today too! Another one of those milestones she slept through.
