So many blessings

Today has been really good for us and for Addison. At some point this morning I was talking to a nurse who referred to Addison as "the little NICU baby," and realized that she really is. Or would be. That is to say, the only reason she isn't in the NICU is because the hospital we are at is still building the NICU. They have everything they need to take care of her, but the actual space for the NICU is under construction, so she has just been in the regular nursery. In a way, I'm glad I didn't know that earlier. I think I would have just been more worried!

This morning, the pediatrician came in and talked with us and told us that she is actually a very healthy, "vigorous" baby, and he doesn't have any worries about her. He told us they are really just trying to be careful and make sure she makes the adjustment to breathing on her own alright. Currently, she is just on a little bit of oxygen with a nasal cannula. It's been really nice, because beyond being able to actually see her face, we can hold her now! Kristin was able to feed her and we got to hold her for quite a while today.

Beyond that, we have just been so grateful today for all the people who have helped and supported us, shown up to see us, called us, been excited for us, and especially for the nurses and doctors who were with us through the whole process. The whole thing really is such a miracle! Pregnancy was hard on both of us, and labor and delivery were no fun at all (thanks to Kristin for doing all the hard work!), but the baby is totally worth it. You feel privileged just to be able to hold her.
